Wireless update now available

0

Maybe we missed the buzz, but earlier today one of our iPhones running iOS 5 received a fancy little notification saying an update was available. Tapping on the notification took us to the iPhone Settings area where we were directed to update the iPhone wirelessly to iOS 5.0.1.

Here’s how it went:

1. The iPhone checks for available updates and shows a summary of what is available.

2. Clicking on ‘learn more’ gives us a heap more information of what is included in the update and which iDevices are affected.

3. If you decide to go ahead an update, you have to first accept the T&C’s as you normally would if you were updating through iTunes.

4. Next, we were asked to plug in the iPhone during the update to save the battery. We didn’t. It still worked. More >

@Comex says Fastra1n is a fake untethered iOS 5 Jailbreak

Watch out kids, the internet is buzzing with a new untethered iOS 5 jailbreak called FastRa1n, but this is a confirmed scam and is unfortunately fake. While we at iphonefan.co.uk haven’t tried to use Fastra1n, the question was asked of a respected member from the iPhone DEV team, @comex, who confirmed this is fake.

A tethered iOS 5 jailbreak is available and works well, however it does rely on attaching your iPhone to your computer everytime you need to reboot it, and as iOS 5 is new, there will be Apps that aren’t compatible and cause the device to crash, so even if you don’t usually ever reboot, there is a strong chance you will if you are running iOS 5.

Untethered jailbreaks are always made available at no cost from the various teams that release these things, so the fact that this Fastra1n is only More >

  • Notifications Swipe down from the top to view notifications. See emails, Facebook messages, Texts… anything that notifies you!
  • Reminders A great addition to the iPhone. Set it to remind you at a certain time OR at a certain location! So if you need to do something at work

New iPhone Facebook App to Launch with iOS5

0

Facebook are bring sexy back with the planned launch of a brand new iPhone App to replace one of the most downloaded iPhone apps since it rolled out in 2008, with 84 million active users. Ever since it’s initial release, users of the iPhone Facebook App have been frustrated with its frequent crashes and failure to deliver notifications to the iPhone.

Facebook have delivered numerous updates and improvements to its iPhone over the last three years, but this time they are attempting something new, something different, and hopefully a bit special.

The new Facebook App will not really be an App at all, so I guess we can stop using the capital A, and just call it an app. This time, the app (currently known as Project Spartan) will not be available from the Apple App Store. It will be entirely HTML5 based, which tells us that it will More >
