4S Jailbreak coming in a few days

0

For all you iPhone 4S users stuck on the official iOS , your wait is very nearly over as the A5 chip is now confirmed as being jailbroken. The combined forces of pod2g and the other big guns in the ‘iOS security research field’ have managed to break the A5 out of the sandbox. This effectively means that the jailbreakers have managed to gain full access to the A5 chip that powers the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2 and have been able to make changes to the source code outside of the development area.

A timescale for the newest jailbreak is still not confirmed but now we know it is possible, it shouldn’t be too far away.

Cracking the A5 chip may even open up the way for a Siri port to earlier iPhones and iPads however it looks like the bigger More >

iOS 5 Jailbreak Issues

0

It didn’t take us too long to update out iPhone 4 with the latest untethered jailbreak from Redsn0w, so a few niggles here and there are to be expected – especially as this jailbreak uses a new exploit. I started to notice a few issues with the iOS5 jailbreak straight away. Although the jailbreak process was very simple this time, getting things working again was a bit trickier.

Straight away, Cydia didn’t install properly and left me with a white icon that wouldn’t launch. To get Cydia running I needed to reboot the iPhone and then it was fine. Next I redownloaded X-Backup. I had this on my iPhone running the iOS 4.3.3 jailbreak and it is supposed to backup all of the Cydia sources and installed programs, so when you upgrade your jailbreak you can reinstall the app, launch the backup and More >

iphone wireless sync

iPhone Wifi Sync is really slow

0

One of the biggest new features of iOS5 for me was the ability to synchronise my iPhone with my iTunes library over wifi.

Not only did I have grand visions of walking through my door, switching on the home modem and watching as my iPhone resynchronised automatically, but I also kind of hoped that I could have somebody rip a few CDs to my iTunes library on my home PC, and I could sync the new songs to my iPhone from a wifi hotspot anywhere in the World.

I guess I was hoping for a bit too much. The truth is, even the very basic home wifi synchronising is slow, sluggish, and messes up my PC. What’s more annoying is that I need to have my iPhone plugged in and charging before it will sync?? Maybe this is just a weird ism with More >

iphone wireless update 1

Wireless update now available

0

Maybe we missed the buzz, but earlier today one of our iPhones running iOS 5 received a fancy little notification saying an update was available. Tapping on the notification took us to the iPhone Settings area where we were directed to update the iPhone wirelessly to iOS 5.0.1.

Here’s how it went:

1. The iPhone checks for available updates and shows a summary of what is available.

2. Clicking on ‘learn more’ gives us a heap more information of what is included in the update and which iDevices are affected.

3. If you decide to go ahead an update, you have to first accept the T&C’s as you normally would if you were updating through iTunes.

4. Next, we were asked to plug in the iPhone during the update to save the battery. We didn’t. It still worked.

5. This update was More >

@Comex says Fastra1n is a fake untethered iOS 5 Jailbreak

0

Watch out kids, the internet is buzzing with a new untethered iOS 5 jailbreak called FastRa1n, but this is a confirmed scam and is unfortunately fake. While we at iphonefan.co.uk haven’t tried to use Fastra1n, the question was asked of a respected member from the iPhone DEV team, @comex, who confirmed this is fake.

A tethered iOS 5 jailbreak is available and works well, however it does rely on attaching your iPhone to your computer everytime you need to reboot it, and as iOS 5 is new, there will be Apps that aren’t compatible and cause the device to crash, so even if you don’t usually ever reboot, there is a strong chance you will if you are running iOS 5.

Untethered jailbreaks are always made available at no cost from the various teams that release these things, so the fact that this Fastra1n is only available for a $25 fee sets More >
