Wireless update now available

0

Maybe we missed the buzz, but earlier today one of our iPhones running iOS 5 received a fancy little notification saying an update was available. Tapping on the notification took us to the iPhone Settings area where we were directed to update the iPhone wirelessly to iOS 5.0.1.

Here’s how it went:

1. The iPhone checks for available updates and shows a summary of what is available.

2. Clicking on ‘learn more’ gives us a heap more information of what is included in the update and which iDevices are affected.

3. If you decide to go ahead an update, you have to first accept the T&C’s as you normally would if you were updating through iTunes.

4. Next, we were asked to plug in the iPhone during the update to save the battery. We didn’t. It still worked. More >

Fraud on Freebiejeebies and Kudos – ruining the scene

0

Recent fraudulent activity on freebiejeebies and kudos network is making it harder than ever for legitimate users to get a free iPhone. There has always been fraud for as long as I can recall, but this time it is getting serious and has led to the unfortunate removal of some popular free offers.

Since the decline of the Lovefilm free trial we saw a sharp decline in the number of completed offers – as much as from 10 per day down to as little as 2-3 per week.

Things improved a bit when the Homestead/Intuit free trial came along and enabled freebie hunters to try making a website in return for their offer completion.

Unfortunately, a large number of users (mostly kids) discovered that a bot can be used to open fake accounts with freebiejeebies and kudos and complete More >

iOS5 hidden tricks and tips

0

Since iOS5 was released this week, iPhone users have been discovering some great iOS5 tricks and tips that aren’t necessarily in the manual. Apple tell us there are more than 200 new features in iOS5 and I kind of like the way they don’t tell us what they all are. Here is a selection of the top iOS5 tips I’ve come across so far:

  • Remove keyboard from Messages When the keyboard is visable making it hard to see the whole text message simply swipe the message down and the keyboard is hidden. And swipe up to reveal!
  • Notifications Swipe down from the top to view notifications. See emails, Facebook messages, Texts… anything that notifies you!
  • Reminders A great addition to the iPhone. Set it to remind you at a certain time OR at a certain location! So if you need to do something at work

iPhone 5 on 4th October – unless Samsung get a win

0

So it looks like the iPhone 5 will be announced on 4th October 2011. Apple have called a press conference and started to invite a number of high profile press to the event. iphonefan.co.uk has also been contacted by a very big iPhone supplier asking for us to advertise their iPhone 5 preorders, so unless they are jumping the gun we can pretty much confirm this will be the iPhone 5 as opposed to the iPhone 4G or any other possible name (we refused!).

If the iPhone 5 announcement does come on the 4th October, we predict the release date will be within 14 days of the announcement which means that our friends in the US of A will be getting their hands on the iPhone 5 towards the end of October. In the UK, stocks will obviously be low to enhance demand, so don’t be expecting availability until mid More >
